Plans change, and there is only one thing to do: free the table. On this site that costs one button, and needs neither an account nor a phone call.
Where the button is
On your booking page: the one with a code in the address, the one that reached you by email when you booked. If you cannot find the email, there is «My bookings», which keeps them in a list in your browser’s storage — so only on the device you booked from.
Under the summary there is «Cancel the booking», in red, with a line above it saying what it does: the table goes back and cannot be recovered. The colour says so before the click, because afterwards there is no way back: if you still need it, you book another one — which may find a different time, or none.
The button is there until the day has passed. On an evening already gone it does not appear: there is nothing left to free.
What happens next
The booking moves to «cancelled», the seat returns to the restaurant, and the row disappears from «My bookings» — that list does not re-read the state from the server, so a cancelled booking would sit there among the upcoming ones as though the table were still yours.
A table request, on the other hand, cannot be cancelled from here
This is the difference worth knowing before you run into it. At a place that does not use Bitebooker you do not book: you request a table, and that request has already gone out to the restaurant. From its page you can read the state — waiting, confirmed, declined, or with an alternative time proposed — but there is no button to withdraw it.
If you have changed your mind: phone the place, if the number is on its listing. Otherwise the request expires by itself at the time you were given when you sent it, and there it ends.
Why cancelling is worth it even late
A table booked and not cancelled stays empty all evening: the restaurant is holding it for you, and whoever calls in the meantime is told there is no room. Cancelling two hours ahead is little, and still worth more than not cancelling at all — it is the window in which a place can put it back.
There is no fee and nobody asks you why. The only thing we ask is that you say so while it still does some good.
